Germany was amazing and beautiful and as soon as I get back to my room in the States I am grabbing my old Treffpunkt Deutsch and teaching myself some grammar. I have an interest in Germany dating from… probably my junior year of high school, when I took a college class on the Faust myth. There is so much interesting German philosophy (I have a theory about this) and culture and history,...

This was the weekend of fog. I hurried to catch a train to Segovia, where we arrived in sun to see the huge aqueduct. By the time we had had lunch and wandered some more, the sun had begun to set: we arrived at the castle with less than an hour of real light left, meaning it looked absolutely beautiful. Segovia is a walled city on a hill in the middle of a valley, so it gets ALL the fog. The...

for mornings on the other side of the world
solitary afternoon Sitting drinking rooibos with lemon and honey. Sharp and slightly sweet and hot; comforting with a twist of shock when it hits my throat. The mug is hot in my hands. what we learn in English class
“the dishwasher is NEVER in the bathroom. Sometimes, there is a washing machine in the bathroom, but never a dishwasher.”
“if you put your head in the oven, you will bake yourself.”
Afterwards, we waited at the bus station for two hours until a lovely lady from Couchsurfing came to help us drag everything we brought to this country on and off another bus and up to her 4th floor apartment.
